I'm DJing Elsewhere Friday!
... and Marjorine the band is playing a show before too!
A two-time Academy Award nominated actor moved onto the block next to mine recently. Obviously I have become fascinated. I could tell you what he got for Christmas [a fancy new guitar stand] and that he’s currently remotely overseeing renovations while he’s on-location filming his next project.
While this may sound creepy [it is], I never actually engage with any celebrities [except for that time I tried flirting with Jessica Biel without knowing it was Jessica Biel… but that’s a story for another time]. However, it got me thinking: how could I cajole him into an interaction, and thus into a story I can tell in the future? So I’ve started leaving all of my dog poop bags in his recycling container on purpose in order to piss him off enough to confront me. I’ll report back soon.
ANYWAYS… I’m DJing in the Loft at Elsewhere this Friday February 20th with Dynoman! Tycho is headlining the main room with Teen Daze and Serrian on support.
It’s pretty cool sharing a bill with Tycho! I’ve been a fan of his since the early days. I remember seeing him at a festival in 2012 and thinking his bassist looked like Diego Costa. They do not in fact look anything alike. His Fader Mix was also really influential on me as an early DJ, showing me that you can have a lot of fun experimenting with guest mixes.
Dynoman and I will be up in the Loft from 10:30 until late. He’s the head honcho over at Rare Frequency Transmissions, a party and label that I’ve been a fan of since they launched back in 2018. He brings a psychedelic twist to his sets and productions, and I love that he also performs his originals live with hardware.
It should be a proper ripper. And you’ll notice it’s called LAZY ROCKETS. That’s because I’m launching another project this year under that name. This will be my release for all things dancing, and is therefore a child of The Space Wanderer. TSW may return at some point, but in what capacity I am not sure. TBD.
So how is this different? Lazy Rockets is really just focused on the vibe. It’s not meant to be particularly original. In fact it’s more or less meant not to be. This project will revolve around me taking samples and turning them into opportunities to make people dance. And I want to take my ego out of it. In that way it’s definitely a response to me DJing so much recently.
Give yourself a listen to these demos and let me know what you think.
Comin’ Round (The Loop)
God is an Indian
These are just demo versions right now, but you bet your ass I’ll be playing them Friday. Hoping to release them in March!
Speaking of releases, Charity and I dropped another new Lo Zinc track! “Thief of Joy” also features a transcendental remix from Sidestreets!
We came up with this one pretty quickly on the spot, and I started DJing with it immediately. It’s been really cool watching people dance to something like this, especially when I mix it out of a song by Charlie xcx and the Spice Girls. Sidestreets did us dirty with the remix - he adds another layer of groove to the core of the track before taking us on an acid flip towards the end. You can also expect to hear this Friday night!
Finally, Marjorine is also playing this weekend. In fact we are playing Friday before I DJ at Elsewhere. I LOVE MUSIC. But actually, this is my favorite type of Friday night. I get to play with my band before DJing until close.
We are super excited to be playing our first Eel Pit show at the Unruly Collective! Sofia is going to help manage our bookings moving forward to let’s hope we can make her proud. New new new and old old old songs on the radar for this one. We play at 7:30 so get there early if you want to skip the late shift.
That’s it for now! As always my updated DJ dates are on my Instagram. I’ll be recording a new DJ set live at Superior Elevation next week so keep your eyes peeled for that.
